Patna, Advocate Suman Kumari, Legal Correspondent, 8th April 2026: In a significant anti-corruption operation, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau, Bihar, successfully apprehended a police officer while accepting a bribe of ₹9,000 in Saran district. The accused, identified as Mohit Mohan, was posted as a Sub-Inspector at Doriganj Police Station.
The action was carried out on April 8, 2026, in connection with Vigilance P.S. Case No. 41/26 dated April 7, 2026. The arrest was made from the officer’s private residence located in Doriganj Bazaar while he was allegedly taking the bribe.
How the Incident Happened
The case originated from a complaint filed by Manu Kumar Sah, a resident of Rasulpur village in Saran district. He alleged that the accused officer had demanded a bribe in exchange for assisting him in a case diary related to Doriganj Police Station Case No. 123/26.
Following the complaint, the Vigilance Bureau conducted a verification process, which confirmed the demand for bribe. Based on the findings, a trap team was constituted under the leadership of Deputy Superintendent of Police Md. Wasim Firoz.
Arrest and Further Action
The trap team caught the accused red-handed while accepting the bribe amount. After the arrest, he is being interrogated and will be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Muzaffarpur. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.
Vigilance Bureau’s Ongoing Anti-Corruption Drive
The Vigilance Bureau has registered a total of 41 cases in 2026 so far, out of which 36 are trap cases. A total of 34 accused have been arrested red-handed, and ₹12,27,000 has been recovered as bribe money. In comparison, during 2025, 101 trap cases were registered with recoveries amounting to ₹37,80,300.
