Rohtas, Mithilesh Kumar, May 6th 2026: A shocking case of alleged human trafficking has surfaced in Rohtas district, where a minor girl was reportedly lured on the false promise of marriage and sold in Rajasthan.
The matter came to light after the 16-year-old victim managed to escape from captivity and return to her home in Dalmianagar after nearly one and a half years, narrating her ordeal to family members and police.
According to the family, the girl had gone missing in January 2024 from a village under Dalmianagar police station limits. Despite extensive efforts, her family had been unable to trace her.
After returning home, the victim alleged that she had been persuaded and taken to Rajasthan, where she was confined in a village, denied freedom of movement, and subjected to physical and mental abuse.
The victim’s mother stated that before the disappearance, a local woman identified as Chaina Devi had approached the family with a proposal to arrange the girl’s marriage in Rajasthan. The family had rejected the offer, but the accused later allegedly contacted the girl directly and lured her away with promises of a better life.
The survivor further alleged that she was sold for ₹50,000, forcibly married to a man approximately 50 years old, and compelled to work like a labourer.
Following her complaint, Dalmianagar police launched immediate action and arrested three women accused of acting as traffickers/brokers:
- Surajmukhi Devi – Resident of Patluka village, Tilouthu police station area
- Babita Devi – Resident of Patluka village
- Chaina Devi – Resident of Mathuri, Dalmianagar
Police said further investigation is underway to identify and arrest other members of the trafficking network.
