Patna, Advocate Suman Kumari, Legal Correspondent, 16th April 2026: In a significant development in the fight against corruption, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau has reported that a total of 13 accused individuals in various corruption cases have surrendered before designated special courts across the state.
According to the official press release, the surrenders were made possible due to sustained efforts and active follow-up by the bureau. These accused had been absconding for a considerable period and were not appearing in judicial proceedings.
The cases pertain to two major categories:
- Misuse of official position (7 accused)
- Caught red-handed while accepting bribes (trap cases – 6 accused)
The surrenders took place during the months of February and March 2026 in special vigilance courts located in cities such as Patna, Muzaffarpur, and Bhagalpur.
Prior Warning Issued
The bureau had earlier issued a warning to all absconding accused involved in corruption-related cases, urging them to surrender before the end of March 2026. It was clearly stated that failure to comply would result in strict legal action starting April.
Continued Crackdown on Corruption
Officials emphasized that the campaign against corruption remains ongoing, with continuous legal proceedings and trials underway. The bureau reiterated its commitment to ensuring accountability and transparency within public offices.
Public Assistance Encouraged
The Vigilance Investigation Bureau has also appealed to citizens to report any instances of bribery or corruption involving public servants.
This development highlights Bihar’s intensified efforts to curb corruption and bring absconding accused under the ambit of law.
