Patna, Vikas Kumar Ojha, December 22nd 2024: The Department of Science, Technology, and Technical Education, under the Bihar Council on Science and Technology (BCST), Patna, celebrated National Mathematics Day-2024 at the Samrat Ashok Convention Center, Gyan Bhavan, Patna. The event was graced by the Honorable Minister of Science, Technology, and Technical Education, Shri Sumit Kumar Singh, as the chief guest. Secretary Dr. Pratima, Director-cum-Special Secretary Shri Udayan Mishra, other departmental officials, and Vice-Chancellor of Bihar Engineering University, Prof. Dr. S.K. Verma, were also present.
The program commenced with a lamp-lighting ceremony and garlanding of a portrait of the great mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan. Shri Udayan Mishra welcomed all dignitaries, teachers, students, officials, and media representatives. Dr. Anant Kumar, Project Director, BCST, gave a presentation on the event’s significance, followed by the release of the departmental magazine by dignitaries. The session was anchored by Dr. Shubha Sinha and Mrs. Annu Priya of BCST.
A key highlight was the felicitation of 553 students who excelled in the Srinivasa Ramanujan Talent Search Test in Mathematics-2024. State-level top three winners were awarded laptops, certificates, mementos, and medals. District-level first and second place winners received ₹5,000 and ₹3,000, respectively, along with medals and certificates. Additionally, all winners were granted ₹1,000 for travel expenses.
The Honorable Minister congratulated the winners, encouraging them to excel in mathematics. He emphasized the state’s initiatives, such as establishing government engineering colleges and polytechnic institutes, making high-quality technical education accessible within Bihar.
Secretary Dr. Pratima encouraged students to benefit from programs like “Pahal,” which provides quality education in science, mathematics, and English. Parents were urged to motivate their children to participate actively.
The Vice-Chancellor of Bihar Engineering University inspired students with his engaging address, wishing them success. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from Dr. Anant Kumar.
