Bribery Trap in Bihar: Revenue Employee Arrested While Taking ₹40,000 Bribe

Patna, Advocate Suman Kumari, Legal Correspondent, April 18th 2026: In a significant anti-corruption operation, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB), Bihar, successfully conducted a trap and arrested a government revenue employee along with an accomplice while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹40,000.

The accused—identified as Lal Babu Rajak, a Revenue Officer posted at the Circle Office, Purnea East—was caught red-handed while accepting the bribe amount from a complainant. Along with him, a woman identified as Rumi Kundu was also arrested for her involvement in the case.

The action followed a complaint lodged by Suraj Sahni, a resident of Purnea, who alleged that the revenue official had demanded a bribe in exchange for processing a land-related inquiry report. After verifying the complaint, the vigilance team formed a trap unit under the leadership of a Deputy Superintendent of Police and carried out the operation successfully.

Both accused were apprehended from the office premises while accepting the bribe amount and are set to be produced before the Special Vigilance Court in Bhagalpur. Further investigation into the matter is currently underway.

The bureau also highlighted its ongoing crackdown on corruption. As per official data, a total of 45 FIRs have been registered in 2026 so far, with 37 accused arrested in trap cases. The total amount recovered in these operations stands at ₹12,81,000.

The Vigilance Investigation Bureau has urged citizens to report any instances of corruption through its helpline numbers and reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring transparency and accountability in public services.
