Patna, Advocate Suman Kumari, Legal Correspondent, 10th May 2026: In a moving gesture that blended judicial dignity with human compassion, Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo, the Chief Justice of Patna High Court, spent Mother’s Day with abandoned and vulnerable young girls at Asha Kiran Balika Grih, delivering a powerful message of empathy, care and social responsibility.
Accompanied by his spouse, the Chief Justice visited the shelter home located inside the campus of Notre Dame Academy on Sunday, where children and staff welcomed the couple with warmth and affection. For the girls residing at the home — many of whom come from distressed and abandoned backgrounds — the visit turned into an emotional and unforgettable occasion.

The atmosphere at the shelter home came alive as the children presented short skits and awareness-based performances on themes such as the harmful effects of mobile phone addiction, social responsibility and “Operation Sindoor.” Deeply impressed by their confidence and creativity, Justice Sahoo encouraged the girls to believe in their abilities and pursue education with determination and discipline.
Addressing the children and caregivers, the Chief Justice said that every child deserves dignity, opportunity and emotional support, regardless of their circumstances. He emphasized that the true character of a civilized society is reflected in how it treats its most vulnerable children.

He also highlighted the growing achievements of women and girls in every sphere of life, including the judiciary, and urged teachers and caretakers to identify and nurture the hidden talents of young girls so they can build bright and independent futures.
On the occasion of Mother’s Day, Justice Sahoo specially acknowledged the contribution of house mothers, counselors, superintendents and probationary officers working at the shelter home. He described them as the emotional backbone of the institution, saying they play the role of mothers in the lives of children who need affection and guidance the most.
In one of the most touching moments of the visit, the Chief Justice and his wife personally served breakfast to the children and later sat down to share a meal with them. Their simplicity, warmth and personal interaction left many present visibly emotional.

Justice Sahoo also recorded his appreciation in the shelter home’s visitors’ register, praising the efforts being made for the welfare and rehabilitation of the girls.
Senior officials of the High Court, including the Registrar General, other officers and staff members, were also present during the visit. Officials from the Child Protection Unit, including the Additional Director and departmental representatives, attended the programme as well.
More than a formal visit, the event emerged as a reminder that humanity, kindness and emotional support remain central to public service and leadership. Through this heartfelt interaction, Chief Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo not only inspired the children but also sent a larger message to society — that protecting childhood, nurturing dreams and standing beside vulnerable children is a collective responsibility.
