Mithilesh Kumar, Rohtas, 25th December 2024: In a dramatic incident, eight juveniles escaped from the Sasararam Juvenile Correctional Home in Rohtas on Tuesday night. They fled by breaking the bathroom door and scaling the boundary wall. Following a swift response by the authorities, the police managed to recover all the escaped juveniles safely after an intense six-hour search operation.
Details of the Incident
Around 8 PM on Tuesday, the juveniles planned and executed their escape by first breaking the bathroom door and then using a makeshift rope made of cloth tied to the window grill to climb out. During the routine headcount, the absence of eight juveniles was discovered, prompting the correctional home authorities to immediately inform the police.
Rohtas Superintendent of Police (SP) Roshan Kumar stated that after receiving the report, police teams from various stations cordoned off nearby areas and launched a search operation. The juveniles were eventually recovered from the vicinity of Sikaria and Malawn villages under Darigaon Police Station limits.
Serious Offenses Linked to Escaped Juveniles
The juveniles housed in the correctional home are involved in serious offenses such as rape, murder, and theft. Most of them are residents of Rohtas district. The correctional home authorities were alerted to the escape when the juveniles did not appear for the evening roll call.
Well-Planned Escape
Investigations revealed that the escape was meticulously planned. The juveniles broke the bathroom door and tied a sturdy cloth to the window grill to climb down and flee the premises. This coordinated effort highlights the need for stricter security measures at the facility.
Police’s Swift Action
Following an intense six-hour operation, the police successfully recovered all eight juveniles. The SP assured that the entire incident is being thoroughly investigated, and strict action will be taken against any staff members found negligent.
