Kaimur, December 9, 2024, Ajit Kumar: In a swift operation within 24 hours, Kaimur police have arrested five individuals, including one unidentified person, involved in an assault on excise police officers by liquor mafia members in Durgauti. The incident occurred during a liquor check, and the arrested suspects include some with a criminal history.
The Kaimur Police Superintendent, Lalit Mohan Sharma, briefed the media in the press conference held at the Durgauti police station. According to him, on December 7, the excise department was conducting a routine inspection liquor near Chhajupur Pokhara at Durgauti where they were confronted by liquor mafia members. The situation worsened into an altercation soon into a violent confrontation. The assailants not only attacked the excise officers but also stopped the national highway for two hours. It was chaos in the area.
In the course of the assault, Excise Officer Ramanand Prasad sustained a broken hand and several other police personnel were injured. In that case, an FIR was lodged by Officer Ramanand Prasad against 10 accused and 30 unidentified persons charging violations under the Arms Act.
Under the leadership of DSP Mohania, an SIT was constituted with members of the DIU and Durgauti police. In a very short span, they could nab five liquor mafia members and one unknown person who was involved in the attack.
Speaking at the press conference, SP Lalit Mohan Sharma said that the arrests were made after the FIR was filed when the assault took place on December 7. Some of the accused have known criminal antecedents while the remaining five are still to be nabbed. Those are expected to be held soon.
The case is still under investigation, and the police have assured that further arrests are imminent.
