Jaiprakash Bhagat, Katihar, 24th December 2024: Katihar police have arrested Sanjay Thakur, a notorious member of the Mohan Thakur gang, known for terrorizing the Diara region of Katihar. Sanjay Thakur, carrying a bounty of ₹2 lakh, is the brother of Mohan Thakur and had been leading the gang in his absence while Mohan remains in jail.
SP Vaibhav Sharma revealed that Sanjay Thakur has been involved in 14 cases, including murder, robbery, and dacoity, along with a kidnapping case registered in Bhagalpur. His arrest is a significant achievement in the ongoing crackdown on the gang’s criminal activities.
On December 2, 2022, a violent gang war led by the Mohan Thakur gang claimed five lives in the Diara region, spanning from Bhawanipur to Bakia. Following this incident, the police apprehended over two dozen suspects, including Sanjay Thakur, one of the prime accused in the massacre.
The arrest of Sanjay Thakur is expected to weaken the gang’s operations in the region significantly. Katihar police have now sent the criminal to jail, marking another success in their efforts to bring justice to the region.
The residents of the Diara region have expressed relief at the arrest of this dreaded criminal, which they hope will bring an end to the long-standing reign of terror in the area.
