Patna, 8th March 2026, Suman Kumari, Legal Correspondent, Patna High Court: The Bihar Judicial Academy celebrated International Women’s Day with a special programme titled “Celebrating the Legacy of Women Empowerment” at its auditorium in Gaighat, Patna on Sunday.
The event was held under the aegis of the Patna High Court and was graced by Sangam Kumar Sahoo, Chief Justice of the Patna High Court and Patron-in-Chief of the Bihar Judicial Academy. Also present were Rajeev Ranjan Prasad, Chairman of the Academy, and Soni Srivastava, along with other judges of the High Court and their spouses.
Former judges including Mridula Mishra, Rekha Kumari and Anjana Mishra also attended the programme. Female Principal & Sessions Judges, Family Court judges, Chief Judicial Magistrates, and judicial officers from across Bihar participated, while several district courts joined the event online.
The programme began with a welcome address by Administrative Officer Tanveer Kaur. Speaking on the occasion, Justice Soni Srivastava discussed the deeper meaning of women empowerment and stressed the supportive role of society in strengthening women’s participation in public life.
Justice Rajeev Ranjan Prasad highlighted the historical foundations of gender equality, referring to principles from ancient Indian philosophy and religious traditions that recognize the dignity and equality of women.
In his address, Chief Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo appreciated the rising number of women joining the Bihar Judicial Services at the entry level. At the same time, he pointed out the relatively low representation of women at the District Judge level and emphasized the need to encourage greater participation of women in higher positions within the judiciary.
As part of the event, officers of the 32nd Batch of Bihar Judicial Services presented a session on “Cyber Justice and Protection of Women in the Digital Age,” focusing on cyber threats and the importance of awareness for women in today’s technology-driven world.
The programme also featured cultural performances, including musical presentations by women judicial officers and an Urdu poetry recital titled “Bint-e-Hawwa” by Hina Haider Rizvi.
The event concluded with a vote of thanks by Neha Rani, a probationary judicial officer of the 32nd Batch of Bihar Judicial Services.
