Left and Congress MLAs Protest Against Lathi-Charge on BPSC Aspirants, Demand Re-Test

Patna, Vikas Kumar Ojha, 31st December 2024: Legislators from Left parties and Congress staged a march to the Raj Bhavan on Tuesday, protesting the lathi-charge on BPSC aspirants and demanding a re-test of the preliminary examination. The march, aimed at highlighting alleged irregularities in the BPSC exam and the government’s heavy-handed response to peaceful protests, began with high enthusiasm but faced significant police intervention.

The MLAs, part of the Mahagathbandhan (Grand Alliance), started their march from the Assembly and reached the Satmurti roundabout near the Legislative Assembly. However, they were stopped by police barricades, preventing them from proceeding further. Undeterred, the legislators pushed forward, marching towards the Raj Bhavan.

Their progress was again halted approximately 500 meters before their destination, where additional barricades were set up to block their path. Despite this, the MLAs maintained their stance, raising slogans and expressing solidarity with the students demanding justice. The administration eventually intervened and transported the protesting MLAs to the Raj Bhavan in official vehicles to discuss their grievances.

The legislators, including representatives from both the Left and Congress, criticized the government for its failure to address students’ concerns and the use of force against aspirants. They called for accountability, transparency in the examination process, and justice for the affected students.

The protest underscores growing discontent among the opposition and the youth of Bihar regarding alleged irregularities in competitive examinations and the government’s approach to handling dissent. The demand for a re-test of the BPSC preliminary examination has gained momentum, with opposition leaders urging the state government to prioritize the future of students and ensure fairness in the recruitment process.

As tensions rise, the protest reflects the opposition’s determination to seek justice for the aspirants and their resolve to challenge the government’s stance on the matter.
