Liquor Smuggling on Horseback Busted in Bettiah; Man Arrested with 21 Litres of Foreign Liquor

Bettiah, Deepak Kumar, April 27th 2026: In an unusual case of liquor smuggling from Bihar’s Bettiah, police have uncovered an innovative trafficking method in which a smuggler allegedly used a horse to transport contraband liquor across the border.

The operation was carried out by Nautan police during a special anti-smuggling drive launched under the direction of Superintendent of Police Dr. Shaurya Suman.

During a raid on Banhoura Road, police intercepted a red-and-white horse carrying suspicious bags. On inspection, officers recovered 121 pouches/bottles of foreign liquor (180 ml each), totaling approximately 21.78 litres.

Police also arrested the accused, identified as Ravi Kumar, a resident of Banhoura village, who was allegedly using the horse to transport the liquor.

Preliminary investigation suggests the horse was used to carry the consignment from Uttar Pradesh into Bihar by crossing the Gandak River, apparently to evade conventional vehicle checks.

A case has been registered at Nautan Police Station, and further legal proceedings are underway.

The unusual smuggling tactic has sparked widespread discussion in the area, with locals expressing surprise over the lengths traffickers are now going to in order to bypass enforcement.
