Patna, December 18th 2024, Vikas Kumar Ojha: Goldie Kumari, a young athlete from Nalanda, Bihar, has made her state proud by winning a gold and a bronze medal at the World Ability Sports Youth Games held in Thailand. For her exceptional achievement, she will be honored with the Prime Minister’s National Child Award on December 26, 2024. The award ceremony will take place at Rashtrapati Bhavan in New Delhi, where the President of India will present the award.
Goldie’s success has not only brought honor to Bihar but has also inspired many young athletes across the state. Her remarkable performance in the World Ability Sports Youth Games, held from December 1 to 7, 2024, in Thailand, involved various events such as athletics, boccia, powerlifting, and table tennis. These games serve as an important platform for young para-athletes to make their international debut and aim for future Paralympic events like the 2028 Los Angeles Paralympics.
Bihar has been actively promoting sports and nurturing talent. Last month, the Indian Women’s Hockey Team won the Asian Champions Trophy 2024 by defeating China 1-0 at the Rajgir Hockey Stadium. This victory highlighted Bihar’s role in hosting international sporting events. The state’s Rajgir Sports Complex will also host the Men’s Hockey Championship in 2025, as well as the Khelo India Youth Games and Para Games.
Moreover, Bihar is organizing Mashal, the country’s largest sports talent hunt, which will see over 60 lakh students from 40,000 government schools participating. The selected students will receive scholarships under the Prerna Yojana and be trained for state, national, and international competitions.
Bihar’s commitment to fostering young talent is clear as the state aims to produce future Olympic medalists and contribute to the nation’s sporting success.
