Sheikhpura, Dharmendra Kumar, 3rd February 2026: Tension has gripped Jianbigha village under Sadar Block of Sheikhpura district after 45 families were served notices to vacate their homes, triggering fear and uncertainty across the area. Families who have been living in the village for decades now face the sudden threat of losing their shelter.
Villagers Approach District Administration
Distressed by the eviction notices, more than two dozen men and women from the village reached the District Collectorate on Monday and met District Magistrate Shekhar Anand, narrating their ordeal. The villagers claimed that their families have been residing on the land for generations and that no dispute had ever arisen earlier.
“If the Land Was Not Ours, Why Were Houses Built?”
Women villagers stated that their grandfathers and great-grandfathers lived on the same land. An emotional Savita Devi questioned the decision, saying,
“We are poor people. Under the government housing scheme, a colony was developed here. We were given pucca houses, electricity connections, and toilets. If this land was not ours, why did the government build houses for us?”
Lives Disrupted by Sudden Notices
The villagers said their children’s education, medical treatment for the elderly, and daily livelihoods are all dependent on the village. The eviction notices have completely disrupted their lives. They asserted that forcing families to vacate their homes without any alternative arrangement is unjust.
Fear and Helplessness Among Women
A large number of women were present at the collectorate, with fear and helplessness clearly visible on their faces. They said that if they are removed from the village, they have no other place to go.
Demand for Fair Inquiry and Humane Approach
The villagers urged the district administration to conduct a fair investigation, review old land records, and ensure that no family is rendered homeless. They appealed to the authorities to adopt a humane and compassionate approach while resolving the issue.
