Patna, Suman Kumari (Editor-in-Chief) News Life Network, 27th January 2026: The Patna High Court has been strengthened with the appointment of another experienced, dedicated, and distinguished judge, Justice Anshul Raj. He took the oath of office and secrecy on Tuesday during a dignified ceremony held at the Centenary Building of the Patna High Court. The oath was administered by the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court, Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo.

The oath-taking ceremony was attended by all Hon’ble Judges of the High Court, judicial officers, senior advocates, and a large number of lawyers. The atmosphere of the event reflected dignity, discipline, and enthusiasm.

Under the leadership of Chief Justice Sangam Kumar Sahoo, continuous efforts are being made to make judicial administration in the Patna High Court more transparent, time-bound, and people-centric. He is widely known in judicial circles as a firm yet sensitive, impartial, and disciplined judge. Under his guidance, several important reformative steps have been taken, including speedy disposal of pending cases, improvements in judicial work culture, and strengthening of digital processes, which have further enhanced public confidence in the judiciary.

Justice Anshul Raj is a well-known and respected name in the legal fraternity. He is the son of renowned senior advocate of the Patna High Court, Advocate Yogesh Chandra Verma, and is considered a representative of a strong legal legacy. He completed his early higher education from Patna University in 1990 and later obtained his Bachelor of Laws (LLB) degree from Magadh University in 2000.

He was enrolled as an advocate with the Bihar Bar Council on June 26, 2003. Since then, he has remained actively engaged in legal practice for over 23 years. His primary areas of practice have been criminal law and constitutional law, in which he earned a distinct reputation for his legal acumen, strong arguments, and effective advocacy.

Justice Anshul Raj also practiced before the Supreme Court of India from 2004 to 2009, which provided him with valuable national-level exposure to judicial processes. In addition, he served as a panel advocate for Indian Railways and also rendered significant services as Standing Counsel for the Government of Bihar in 2014.

His appointment is being viewed as a major and positive development for the Patna High Court. Legal experts believe that Justice Anshul Raj’s vast experience, balanced outlook, and strong commitment to constitutional values will further strengthen the Court’s efficiency and enhance the delivery of justice.

With his oath-taking, the total number of judges in the Patna High Court has increased to 38. However, out of the sanctioned strength of 53 judges, 15 positions still remain vacant. Despite this, his induction has provided the Court with an experienced, energetic, and trust-inspiring judge.

After the ceremony, advocates, judicial officers, and eminent citizens extended their congratulations to Justice Anshul Raj and expressed confidence that he would discharge his judicial responsibilities in an exemplary manner, in accordance with the Constitution, principles of justice, fairness, and human values.
