Patna, December 10, 2024, Vikas Kumar Ojha: A report of alleged assault on liquor prohibition team while it was conducting vehicle checking near Chhajupur Pokhara, Durgawati Police Station, some 14 km from the Mohania checkpost on the Kaimur district border with Uttar Pradesh has been received on December 7, 2024.
Following this, Rajnish Kumar Singh, Commissioner of Prohibition called for the constitution of a joint investigation team at headquarters levels to investigate the matter at detail. According to the preliminary findings of the investigation team, serious issues against the conduct and working methodology of the Liquor Prohibition team found in Kaimur are mentioned below:
After going through the report properly, Rajnish Kumar Singh took the following steps:
- Shailendra Kumar, In-Charge Superintendent of Prohibition, has been relieved of his duties on charges of negligence in duty, shielding guilty personnel, and submitting misleading reports to the headquarters.
- Two assistant sub-inspectors, Ramanand Prasad and Sanjay Kumar Singh, and a prohibition constable, Anil Kumar Paswan, have been suspended with immediate effect for their role in the raid and apparent violations of established norms.
Preliminary findings indicate that these officials have acted in violation of procedural standards and there is evidence of collusion with local smugglers.
Clarification & Next Steps
The In-Charge Superintendent of Prohibition, Shailendra Kumar, has been called for explanation regarding his version of the happening. Further action will follow depending on the investigation and his explanation.
Commissioner’s Directive
Rajnish Kumar Singh has also emphasized the importance of integrity and diligence in duty for all prohibition officers. He further added that stringent action will be taken against those officers who were found to be involved with smugglers and were harassing ordinary citizens in enforcing liquor prohibition laws.
This step of Bihar depicts how the state is serious about transparency, accountability, and strict adherence to law enforcement standards in that it is probing the very major and sensitive issue.
