Patna, December 21st 2024, Vikas Kumar Ojha: Energy Secretary and CMD of Bihar State Power Holding Company Limited, Mr. Pankaj Kumar Pal, today reviewed the progress of revenue collection and the installation of smart prepaid meters. The meeting was attended by Dr. Nilesh Ramchandra Devre, Managing Director of North Bihar Power Distribution Company Limited, senior officers from the headquarters, Superintending and Executive Engineers from all circles and divisions, as well as representatives from metering agencies.
Emphasis on Continuous Consumer Engagement
CMD Mr. Pal directed the officers to maintain continuous contact with consumers to ensure timely payment of electricity bills and quick resolution of electricity-related issues. He stressed the importance of regular outreach through announcements, phone calls, and door-to-door visits to address consumer grievances. Additionally, he highlighted the need to educate consumers about recharging their accounts when their balance reaches zero and to encourage the use of mobile apps for convenience.
Instructions to Speed Up Smart Prepaid Meter Installation
Mr. Pal instructed the metering agencies to ensure the installation of smart prepaid meters in all government buildings by December 31, 2024. He expressed concern over reports of faulty smart prepaid meters in several locations, which are causing inconvenience to consumers and revenue losses for distribution companies. He issued a strong warning to agencies like Secure Meters and Intellismart regarding their poor performance, instructing them to increase their workforce and meet the targets within the given timeframe. He also directed all agencies to replace faulty meters by January 15, 2025.
Measures to Improve Revenue Collection
During the meeting, officials from various zones and regions shared challenges related to revenue collection. Mr. Pal instructed the officers to enhance communication with consumers and ensure the swift resolution of their issues to improve revenue collection. He also called for a stronger focus on IEC (Information, Education, and Communication) activities to raise consumer awareness and enhance participation in the revenue collection process.
