Bhagalpur, December 19th 2024, Alok Kumar Jha: A chaotic scene unfolded on Wednesday at Middle School Nayachak in Nathnagar block of Bhagalpur district when District Programme Manager (DPM) Amit Kumar Verma arrived for an unscheduled inspection, allegedly under the influence of alcohol. Retired Block Resource Person (BRP) Gaurav Kumar from Kahalgaon accompanied him during the visit.
According to school staff, including Assistant Teacher Sanjeev Kant Thakur and Headmaster Anand Prakash, DPM Verma and retired BRP Gaurav Kumar demanded ₹10,000 upon their arrival. The teachers further alleged that Verma was intoxicated, with the smell of alcohol emanating from him.
The situation escalated quickly, leading to an uproar in the school. Enraged locals, upon hearing the allegations, detained both Verma and Gaurav Kumar. The police intervened promptly, managing to pacify the agitated crowd and resolve the immediate unrest.
District Education Officer (DEO) of Bhagalpur has assured that the matter will be thoroughly investigated, and appropriate action will be taken based on the findings. The incident has sparked outrage among locals, raising serious concerns about the behavior and integrity of officials in the education sector.
