Gaya, Abhishek Kumar, December 17th 2024: Sri Lankan President Anura Kumara visited the Mahabodhi Temple, a UNESCO World Heritage site, on Tuesday, where he performed prayers and meditation under the sacred Bodhi Tree. The Bodhgaya Temple Management Committee (BTMC) extended a warm welcome to the President, presenting him with the traditional Khada cloth. The accompanying Sri Lankan delegation was also honored in a traditional manner.
Amid heightened security, the President’s visit was conducted smoothly, with police forces deployed in and around the temple premises. District Magistrate Dr. Tyagarajan S.M. and SSP Ashish Bharti were present on-site to oversee the arrangements and ensure the safety of the dignitaries.
During his visit, President Anura Kumara admired the historical and spiritual significance of Bodh Gaya, emphasizing its pivotal role as the place where Lord Buddha attained enlightenment. After offering prayers at the temple, he spent time meditating under the sacred Bodhi Tree, which remains a symbol of peace and wisdom for millions across the world.
The Sri Lankan delegation accompanying the President also expressed deep reverence for the temple’s spiritual traditions and its universal message of peace and harmony.
President Anura Kumara’s visit holds immense significance for India-Sri Lanka ties, particularly in strengthening the cultural and religious bonds between the two nations.
