Patna, Suman Kumari (Editor-in-Chief) News Life Network, 2nd February 2026: In a decisive action against corruption, the Vigilance Investigation Bureau (VIB), Bihar, Patna has carried out a major operation under the leadership of Director General J. S. Gangwar, leading to the recovery of movable assets worth over ₹1.06 crore from a senior agriculture officer in Muzaffarpur.
The action relates to Vigilance Police Case No. 03/26 dated January 2, 2026, in which Sudhir Kumar, District Agriculture Officer-cum-Project Director (ATMA), Muzaffarpur, was arrested red-handed on January 3, 2026, while allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹19,000. Following the arrest, vigilance officials conducted searches at his Patna residence and recovered ₹14 lakh in cash, along with several investment-related documents and bank passbooks.
During the course of investigation, it was revealed that a bank locker was being jointly operated by the accused and his wife at Indian Bank, Khagaul Branch (Bihar Veterinary College, Patna-14). After obtaining due permission from the competent court, a special search team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Mithilesh Kumar opened the locker on January 30, 2026.
The locker search resulted in the recovery of jewellery worth ₹1,06,60,097, including 447 grams of gold valued at approximately ₹57.66 lakh, 11.50 grams of diamonds worth about ₹44.14 lakh, and 2.36 kilograms of silver valued at around ₹4.78 lakh.
Director General of Vigilance Investigation Bureau J. S. Gangwar is widely regarded for his firm, transparent, and result-oriented approach against corruption. Under his leadership, the Vigilance Bureau has intensified operations against corrupt public servants, ensuring swift action, strict supervision, and legal accountability. Senior officials state that DG Gangwar has adopted a zero-tolerance policy toward corruption, sending a strong message across the administrative system.
The Vigilance Bureau has clarified that the investigation is still ongoing and that a detailed assessment of the seized assets in comparison with the known sources of income of the accused is being conducted. Further legal action will be taken based on the findings of the investigation.
The Bureau has also appealed to the public to report any demand for bribes by government officials or public servants, assuring prompt and confidential action.
This operation is being seen as a major success in Bihar’s ongoing anti-corruption drive, reinforcing transparency, accountability, and public confidence in investigative agencies.
