Jehanabad, December 14th 2024, Pawan Kumar: A dispute over drinking water took a deadly turn in Jehanabad’s Malhchak area, where a sanitation worker lost his life in a violent altercation. The incident occurred under the Nagar police station jurisdiction and has left the community in shock.
The Tragic Altercation
The victim, Lallu Ram, a sanitation worker employed by the Nagar Parishad, was on duty when he felt thirsty and picked up a mug to drink water from a nearby tea stall owned by Rajesh Kumar. This seemingly minor action led to a heated argument between the two. The verbal exchange escalated rapidly, and Rajesh allegedly attacked Lallu with a stone, leaving him critically injured.
Lallu was rushed to Sadar Hospital but was declared dead by the doctors upon arrival. As news of his death spread, fellow sanitation workers retaliated by beating the tea stall owner, who also sustained serious injuries and is now undergoing treatment at the same hospital.
Protest and Chaos
The victim’s family, along with locals, staged a protest by placing Lallu’s body on the Gaya-Patna NH-83 highway, demanding justice and compensation. The protest caused a significant traffic jam, with vehicles lined up for miles.
A relative of the deceased, Ajit Kumar, shared that Lallu was the sole breadwinner for his family. “We demand adequate compensation for his family to cope with this irreparable loss,” he said.
Police Action and Investigation
Nagar police station in-charge, Diwakar Vishwakarma, confirmed the fatality stemming from the altercation. “The body has been sent for post-mortem, and an investigation is underway to uncover the exact circumstances of the incident. The protestors have been pacified, and the roadblock has been cleared,” he stated.
The incident underscores how minor disputes can spiral into violence, with devastating consequences for the families involved. The local administration has assured a thorough investigation and appropriate action against those responsible.
